Matt Crofford, an American part-time producer, is the producer who got me into Progressive House back in the end of 2011 with his remix of Life in Technicolor by Coldplay. He deserves a spotlight in my opinion. Besides his lovely Seasons Mixes, some of which were featured in FRISKY Radio, he releases beautiful remixes and has released two remixes in 2013.
His first release this year is his remix of BT’s Surrounded. I should first talk about Matt Crofford’s remixing style, which is pretty minimalistic, he usually gives the track a slower tempo for a more relaxed, melodic effect and he doesn’t deviate from the original track too much. This is exactly what he has done with Surrounded, a toned down version of the original, a very relaxing and chill production, which is definitely worth listening to!
Matt Crofford’s second release is a remix of Sigur Rós – Saeglópur. Again, it is a very minimal remix, though compared to the original, it is faster, but it is still a chilled track nonetheless. It is another remix of an otherwise average song. The original, Saeglópur is a seven minute song and you can trust me when I say that there are a few minutes that are not worth listening to. Despite this, Matt has taken the good elements of the track and given them a bit of the EDM touch. He has crafted a beautiful track, another relaxing tune that stays true to the style that he has developed for himself. A good driving song, if you are the ”driving music” type.
To keep it to 3, – because Matt Crofford has a large catalogue of great remixes -, I will mention one of his older and more popular tracks, his remix of Temper Trap – Sweet Disposition. The Matt Crofford signature style is apparent right away. Toned down, a slight touch to the vocals and melody of the original song make it all the more relaxing. Matt Crofford is my go-to producer for laid back listening music, lovely remixes, and mash-ups. I just wish he would release productions more often!
